親民黨主席宋楚瑜仍未鬆口表態是否參選2016，只強調再「作功課」，8月初才決定。但他也語帶玄機說，台灣需要找回中道力量；國、民兩黨關心他參選，就因「擔心在急獨、急統中，突然出現一股中道力量！」
針對2016總統、立委選舉，親民黨昨午召開幹部會議討論。與會人士透露，不分北中南黨公職幹部，多達近40人發言，幾乎「一面倒」勸進。而宋近日不僅開始準備政策說帖、尋覓發言人，參選態勢漸趨明朗，「準備好正面迎戰，會比4年前更積極！」
據轉述，宋在會中表示，國民黨從未將親民黨當成「藍軍」一份子，反而趕盡殺絕；這次他若選總統，不是分裂藍軍，而是國民黨表現讓人民太失望，他已對國民黨「仁至義盡」。
他向與會幹部預告，將在8月6日對外宣布是否投入明年總統大選；他信心滿滿說，若他決定參選，明年大選不會是「三國鼎立」，而是「楚漢相爭」局勢。
至於為何無法現在宣布？他眼眶泛淚哽咽說，7月底（27日）是亡妻陳萬水逝世三周年，還須好好考量。
對於綠營戲稱發布「颱風警報」，宋楚瑜打趣說，「我只有2萬票，有什麼好緊張的，不要自己四面楚歌、草木皆兵，就怕中了我的十面埋伏！」
